Five Artist Happenings in Lakewood
Because, after all, this is a town full of amazing artists.

Now that the tents are folded up, Detroit Avenue is reopened and Lakewood Arts Walk is over, it might be the time to keep you posted on other arts-centric happenings around town.
Because, after all, this is a town full of amazing artists.
- The first-ever "Art and Soul Street Festival" is coming to Cranford Avenue from noon to 7 p.m. Sept. 14. The event — to benefit Trinity Lutheran Community Outreach Program — will feature local artists and their work, chalk art and face painting for the kids and music and food. The event is sponsored by Good Day Moon Gallery and The Reiki Room Healing Arts Center. Looking forward to this one.
- Lakewood artist Kris Williams is featuring some original pieces of her artwork at the Sweet Spot on Avenue. During the entire month of August, Williams’ original work on the wall is 20 percent off with the purchase of a gelato. “Sweet Spot also has some (amazing) flavors added to the menu lately,” said Williams. “Nice family run, local ingredient joint.” By the way, the art is fantastic, too.
- Beck Center for the Arts always has lots happening. Spamalot, a new musical lovingly ripped off from the motion picture “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” is showing on the Mackey Main State through Aug. 18. The always-hilarious Something Dada also has shows running in August. Check out the amazing artwork while you’re wandering around the Lakewood arts institution.
- Had a chance to check out The Lucha Libre exhibit at the Good Goat Gallery? Well, you’ve still got some time. The show runs through Aug. 24. The art show features the colorful campiness of Lucha Libre, (Mexican wrestling). The exhibit features the work of local artists, and “makers of smiles and happiness.”
- Keep an eye out for news about Breakneck Gallery’s upcoming Distorted Portraits show on Aug. 31. It’s Breakneck Gallery; you can expect something fantastic. Remember the Artist Trading Cards show? It was rad.
