Lakewood AF Will Offer Poke, Ice Cream This Year
Two longtime Lakewood residents and business owners are launching a new concept this year in the former Ice Cream Joy space.

LAKEWOOD, OH — Two Lakewood business owners are joining forces to launch Lakewood AF this year.
The shop will offer Hawaiian-style poke and ice cream, and is being opened by Cassandra Fear, owner of Fear's Confections, and Daniel Ang ,owner of Dang Good Foods. The name Lakewood AF is a reference to the duo's last names Ang and Fear (what else could it possibly mean?).
"Lakewood doesn’t have any poke. Plenty of ice cream, but the local tie to that will be awesome. It’ll be a one-of-a-kind thing in Lakewood," Fear said.

Lakewood AF will take over the former Ice Cream Joy space at 15210 Madison Ave. Both Ang and Fear had long eyed the location as a site for possible expansion.
"Both of us have been trying to acquire this space over the years," Fear told Patch. After years of attempts, Fear posted on social media about how she had been eyeing the site. Ang saw that post and reached out to her. He too had been looking to expand into that location.

Was there a way for them to join forces?
"When this space became available, it was a no-brainer to look into a partnership. We worked out the concept that both of us can contribute to and benefit from," Ang said. As Ice Cream Joy shuttered, the former owners accepted Ang and Fear's offer and the space finally became theirs.
The duo are hoping to open Lakewood AF in late spring, though construction schedules are also fluid, so there's no hard opening date yet. They expect to hire up to four employees to handle the ice cream and poke orders, though Fear noted she's a "hop, skip and jump" away because Fear's Confections is across the street.
