LAKEWOOD, OH — The U.S. House is considering boosting emergency funding for local governments, a move that drew praise from Lakewood leaders.

The legislation would allocate $350 billion in funding for states, localities, Tribes and territories. Another $117 million would be used for oversight entities to promote transparency in how federal coronavirus relief funds are used.

"I am encouraged by this legislation and the progress it indicates toward funding COVID relief for local governments. The City of Lakewood needs this support. Last week, I reached out to our congressional delegation and asked them to use their platforms to advocate on our behalf for this funding because it is important, not just to the functioning of City Hall, but for our ability to keep Lakewood a safe, healthy, and thriving place where people want to live, work, and visit," Mayor Meghan George said in a statement.

The House's Committee on Oversight and Reform will consider the legislation on Friday. A livestream of the meeting will be available on YouTube.

"Now, I implore the House Oversight and Reform Committee to pass this legislation out of committee and onto the full House of Representatives for a vote, with COVID relief funding for local governments kept whole," George said.
