Lakewood Listens To More Halloween Music Than Any U.S. City

Lakewood residents seem to really, really like Halloween music. They're streaming it more than any other American town.

LAKEWOOD, OH — Spotify and the New York Times teamed up to look at which states and cities stream the most Halloween music. Well, apparently the "Monster Mash" is pretty popular in Lakewood because residents are streaming more Halloween music than any other town in the U.S.

The "Monster Mash" is actually the second most popular Halloween song — that most streamed tune is "Thriller" by Michael Jackson. "Ghostbuster," "(Don't Fear) the Reaper," and "Highway to Hell," round out the top five most popular seasonal tunes.

To be honest, the list of songs that Spotify counted as "Halloween" tunes is suspect. We're not sure "Psycho Killer" by the Talking Heads or "Freaks Come Out at Night" by Whodini should be ranked in the top 20. At least "Zombie" by the Cranberries could be badly misinterpreted into a song about a literal brain-eating monster.
