LAKEWOOD, OH — On Wednesday, Joe Biden was inaugurated as the 46th president of the United States.

In a sweeping speech, Biden called for an end to America's "uncivil war." He urged Americans to maintain concern and empathy for their neighbors, even if they disagree politically. He noted that his vice president, Kamala Harris, was a symbol of how much the nation can change.

Rep. Marcy Kaptur, the longest-serving woman in the house, celebrated Biden's inauguration. She said the ceremony speaks to the endurance of the American experiment and is a beacon of hope for the future.

"With their swearing in, President Biden and Vice President Harris bring anew to the Capital the hopes and dreams of all Americans that our great nation may meet its full promise."

Lakewood-based state Sen. Nickie Antonio said she looks forward to touring the Capitol and visiting with the new administration. She reminisced on social media about her previous visit to Washington, D.C.
