Lakewood Street Maintenance To Be Partially Funded By County
The city is up for approximately $26,000 in county funding for preventative maintenance work on streets.

LAKEWOOD, OH — Lakewood could receive approximately $26,000 in Cuyahoga County funding for preventative maintenance on local streets. City officials said the money would be used, partially, for the resurfacing of Lakewood Heights Boulevard this summer.
The funding would come through the county's Preventative Maintenance Program. Through that initiative the county will help cover material costs for roadway projects like crack sealing, patching and catch basin repair. Projects are selected based on traffic volume, road condition, and project cost. All cities that apply for the program will be awarded at least a portion of the requested funds.
“Our programs focus on being proactive in addressing the needs of the regional transportation system while partnering with cities and other funding partners to maximize the use of our resources,” said Director of the Department of Public Works Michael Dever.

Lakewood Heights Boulevard will be repaved this summer, according to a Lakewood city official. That project will take place, primarily between Chesterland Avenue and Alger Road.

Historically, much of the funding from the Preventative Maintenance Program has been used for crack sealing projects in Lakewood. Brown Road, for instance, had many of its cracks sealed a few years ago, and those projects were reimbursed by the county.
“Strong infrastructure is a critical need in our county,” said County Executive Armond Budish. “The County continues to find innovative ways to assist our municipalities, even as State and Federal funds are diminishing. I am pleased to see our County and local city officials collaborating to get these road resurfacing projects completed.”
