Lakewood's Detroit-Sloane Intersection Targeted For Improvements

Mayor Meghan George said the city is planning $2.5 million in improvements for the intersection and surrounding area.

LAKEWOOD, OH — There are plans in motion to improve the Detroit-Sloane intersection in Lakewood, Mayor Meghan George confirmed.

The $2.5 million project will receive financial support from the Ohio Department of Transportation and NOACA to the tune of $1.4 million. Construction will begin in early spring 2021 and should be completed by the end of the year.

George said the plan would see improvements to the intersection and the western corridor into Lakewood. The streetscape, from Lakewood's western entrance on Detroit east to Graber Drive, will be improved.

"This will include improvements to the intersection, a water main replacement, sewer improvements, an extension of the all-purpose trail from the Cleveland Metroparks’ Rocky River Reservation into Lakewood, and installation of public art for this key entry into Lakewood," George said.

The Ohio Department of Transportation is also planning on updating the I-90 bridge over the Rocky River Reservation. Work on that project would also begin in early 2021.
