Meals On Wheels Finds Help In Lakewood, Rocky River

The organization brings meals to residents in need, but the group now needs volunteers.

LAKEWOOD, OH — Meals on Wheels needs volunteers to bring meals to residents in Lakewood and Rocky River.

The program serves 62 people between the two cities and brings two meals a day, Monday through Friday. Meals are available to anyone who is having trouble purchasing meals.

There are eight routes between Lakewood and Rocky River and recipients get one hot meal and one cold meal per day.

"Volunteers are the backbone of this group, without them we could not operate," said Kathy Blackwell, Meals on Wheels.

The organization needs volunteers for both the kitchen, for preparing the meals, and delivery drivers. Volunteers will work one timeslot per week, or occasionally as a substitute.

With COVID-19 spreading through Ohio, there has been a slight increase in need in both Lakewood and Rocky River, Blackwell told Patch.

Patch has teamed with Feeding America to help raise awareness on behalf of the millions of Americans facing hunger.
