Police: Break-In, Sexual Assault Was an Isolated Incident

Although the incident has attracted widespread attention on Facebook, there has only been one reported incident, involving one suspect.

Police believe that an incident involving the sexual assault of a Wyandotte Avenue woman in her home was an isolated incident.

According to the police report, a woman in the 1400 block of Wyandotte Avenue called police and said there was an unknown man in her home at around 1:30 a.m. July 22.

Capt. Ed Hassing said that an “unknown intruder entered (the) home and sexually assaulted” the woman.

The report doesn’t give any additional details about the assault.

“In this case the suspect entered the home through an unlocked door,” Hassing said.

Police immediately began an investigation, but there are no suspects, he added.

“This is the only incident of this type that has been reported to us,” Hassing said.

He took the opportunity to remind residents to lock their homes.

“People should always secure their property — be it their homes, car or garages,” he said.
