Power Outages In Lakewood: 1,400 In Dark

More than 1,400 Lakewood residents woke up Saturday morning without power.

LAKEWOOD, OH — Damaging storms rolled through Northeast Ohio on Friday, dumping inches of rain and tugging branches from trees. The havoc left thousands of Ohioans without power on Saturday morning.

In Lakewood, 1,408 FirstEnery Customers were in the dark on Saturday morning. The energy company estimates that power will be restored to all customers by 11 p.m.

While there are outages scattered throughout Lakewood, Birdtown was hit the hardest by the weather, according to the FirstEnergy outages map. To report an outage near you, or to check on the status of a previously reported outage, visit the FirstEnergy website.

After summer weather arrived early, bringing 90 degree temperatures to northern Ohio, the Buckeye State reminded residents how turbulent weather here can be. A vicious storm rushed into the region, dropping temperatures into the 40s.

While there's little chance of continued showers throughout the weekend, temperatures won't escape the 60s until Memorial Day. Northeast Ohioans will also want to avoid the beach until at least Monday.

"Wind and wave action will cause currents on the lakeshore. Swimmers should not enter the water. Currents can carry swimmers away from shore through a sand bar and along structures extending out into the lake," the National Weather Service warned.
