Prevent Excessive Barking, Lakewood Tells Residents

City officials are asking residents to keep their pets from barking too much or otherwise disturbing the community.

LAKEWOOD, OH — With more Lakewood residents working from home, the city is reminding everyone to clean up after their pets and to keep dogs from barking too much.

In a message shared on social media, the city's Animal Safety and Welfare Advisory Board reminded residents of Lakewood's density, meaning residents are living close together. An unruly pet could lead to tension between neighbors.

"That’s why it’s a good time to remind ourselves to be conscientious when it comes to our pets. Excessive barking and neglecting to clean up after our animals can cause strain between neighbors and result in unnecessary visits by our Animal Control Officers," the board said.

Northeast Ohio Animal Hospital said animals can also feel the anxiety and boredom of being trapped inside during quarantine. It's important to find ways to entertain your pets and keep them from acting out. The hospital said working on a new trick with a dog, puzzle games and complicated treat dispensers can ease the ennui.

"Please keep in mind that many of your surrounding neighbors may be working from home and make sure to pay attention when your pets are outside. Let’s make being stuck at home a little bit easier!" the board added.
