St. Edward Football Headed Back To Playoffs

The Eagles are looking to defend their 2018 state championship. First, they'll need to beat Medina High.

LAKEWOOD, OH — St. Edward's football team will play Medina in the first round of the 2019 Division I playoffs. Friday's game represents the first postseason step for the Eagles, who are looking to defend their 2018 state championship.

St. Ed's enters the postseason as the second seed in Division I, Region 1 football. The Eagles were 9-1 on the year. The No. 1 seed in the region is undefeated Mentor.

Friday night's game will be played in Lakewood at 7 p.m. Should St. Ed's win, the Eagles would play the winner of the Euclid-Massillon Jackson game.

On the other side of the bracket, Mentor will play No. 8-seed Cleveland Heights, while Solon will travel to Canton McKinley. All games will be played Friday night. The higher-seeded team will host the game.

Football state championship games will again be played at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton. Title games will be played December 5 through December 7.

Last year. St. Ed's defeated Cincinnati Colerain, 24-10 in the state championship.
