Tess’ Tender Touch Closing Its Doors on Detroit Avenue

The store is hosing a going-out-business sale at the store on Sunday.

Tess’ Tender Touch is closing its doors in the former Detroit Savings and Loan on Detroit Avenue, after opening there last fall.

Sunday will be last day for the gift shop near the intersection of Detroit and Cranford avenues.

β€œWe just simply cannot afford the rent any longer,” said owner Theresa Ferline-Carr. β€œI am very sad as I poured my heart and soul into it. I felt the shop was a reflection of myself and it is sad to pull it apart.”

The gift shop had shuttered its spot at 14419 Detroit Avenue in July 2012Β after two years at that locationβ€” where Paisley Monkey recently unveiled its expansion.

β€œWe gave it a gallant effort,” said Ferline-Carr.

But the brick-and-mortar closing doesn’t signal the end of Tess' Tender Touch.

Instead, Ferline-Carr said she plans to take the business online, where she can continue specializing in items that includes candles, jewelry and many other local gifts.

β€œMy customers have always been the heart of my business and I plan to continue to bring them the unique and beautiful gifts that they have grown to love and expect,” she said. β€œIt's a tough economy for all businesses large and small.”
