Tom Hanks, Stephen Colbert Shout Out Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, OH — Lakewood was the subject of a celebrity shout out during "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on Wednesday night.

Guest Tom Hanks was discussing where he was riding out the COVID-19 pandemic and joked that if you stuck a pin in a map — say in Lakewood, Ohio — he was somewhere just beyond that pin. The Lakewood reference did not escape Colbert.

"Quality people there in Lakewood, Ohio," he quickly quipped.

Hanks then brought up his brief residency in Northeast Ohio, noting that he was part of the Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival.

This was not the first time Hanks has shouted out Northeast Ohio while appearing on Colbert's program. Back in 2016, before COVID-19 shut down everything, Hanks was asked which team he was supporting in the 2016 World Series...the Chicago Cubs or the Cleveland Indians?

He vowed support for the Tribe.

"You do not do three long, hot summers doing Shakespeare in Cleveland, blowing time watching the Cleveland Indians play at a park, that I swear was called at the time, 'Cleveland Municipal Lakefront Stadium.' It wasn't like PetCo Park or Dunkin Donuts Field, it was Cleveland Municipal Lakefront Stadium. It holds 90,000 people and I would be there on a given night with 4,800," Hanks said.
