Windsong, Cleveland's Feminist Chorus Celebrates 40 Years of Song

Anniversary Concert and Celebration November 16th at the Lakewood Masonic Temple

(Windsong Cleveland)

Windsong, Cleveland’s Feminist Chorus is celebrating its 40th year with “We Are”! A 40th Anniversary Concert and Celebration on Saturday, November 16th at 7 pm at the Lakewood Masonic Temple. This festive event will feature table seating, heavy hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and a full Windsong concert featuring a variety of works including “SIGNS: Voices from the Women’s March” by Ruth Huber and “It Takes a Village” and “Ffe Mwe, Mwe Ffe” by composer Joan Szymko.

Windsong boasts a long and full herstory of making beautiful music while promoting feminism and social justice, going all the way back to 1979. First known as the Cleveland Women’s Chorus, the group changed names several times before settling on Windsong, Cleveland’s Feminist Chorus in 1996.

Windsong is comprised of an intergenerational group of women and non-binary individuals with diverse backgrounds and identities and its numbers have fluctuated over the years, with as few as a half-dozen hardy souls keeping the chorus alive, to as many as forty-nine dedicated singers in 2018. Windsong is a non-audition chorus open to all regardless of experience and provides many creative and leadership opportunities among its members.
