Armed Carjacking At Mentor Gas Station

Police said a masked man pulled a handgun on a man pumping gas on Thursday night.

MENTOR, OH — A man brandishing a handgun carjacked a Speedway gas station customer on Thursday night, Mentor Police said.

The robbery happened at about 8:30 p.m. A man was pumping gas at the Speedway on Reynolds Road when a masked man approached him. The suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded the keys to the man's 2013 Ford Edge.

The man handed over the keys and the masked man drove off. The stolen car has Ohio license plates reading HQK9941.

Police believe there may be a connection with an incident that happened approximately 10 minutes before the Speedway robbery.

At the Shell Gas Station on Mentor Avenue, a woman was pumping gas. As she was fueling up, a man tried to jump into her car.

Luckily, the car was locked and the man took off running. He got into a black or dark purple Cadillac, possibly an STS or CTS, with a burnt out passenger side tail light, police said.

Police do not yet know if the suspect was the same person for both incidents, but the two crimes are believed to be related.
