Blazing Heat Produces Big Crowds at Mentor Pools

Kids describe the feeling they get when jumping in the pool on a day that approached 90 degrees.

A week full of 80-degree temperatures illustrates just how valuable how it is to have plenty of opportunities to cool off in one city.

Mentor Recreation Superintendent Paul Hegreness said about 2,500 people took advantage of the city's three pools on Tuesday alone. Nearly 1,800 people visited Civic Center Pool that day, along with 500 at Garfield and 300 at Morton.

Another 500 or so visited Walsh Spray Park that day.

"On these kinds of days, what an asset it is to have these pools," Hegreness said.

That sentiment wasn't lost on youngsters like Noah and Gabe, who are twins, and Liam who all describe the feeling they get when they first jump in the pool in the video above. They all enjoyed cooling down a bit at Garfield this week.
