Cavs fall to Pistons, 125-114, Love breaks hand, out 6-8 weeks

The Cavs looked listless early and were outplayed late and got run off the by the floor by the under-manned Detroit Pistons to lose 125-114. To make matters worse, the Cavs lost Kevin Love to a broken hand. The team said he had a non-displaced fracture in his fifth metacarpal and his status would be updated after additional examination Wednesday in Cleveland. The injury could cost Love a month, maybe more.

LeBron James led the Cavs with 21 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Isaiah Thomas had 19 points (3-of-10) and five assists. Channing Frye picked up a lot of the minutes that Love left behind, finishing with 20 points off the bench in 21 minutes left. Dwayne Wade finished with 18 points in his first game after leaving with a personal matter. He also passed Larry Bird for 32nd on the NBA's all-time scoring list.

All five Pistons starters scored at least 19 points, paced by Stanley Johnson's career-high 26 points, who also added 10 rebounds, and four assists. Andre Drummond collected 22 points, 21 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and three blocked shots in a dominating performance on the night he learned he had made his second All-Star Game. Anthony Tolliver tallied 20 points. Ish Smith picked up 19 points and seven assists.

The win helped the Pistons snap an 8-game losing streak less than a day after the Pistons traded 40 percent of their starting lineup for Blake Griffin, who was not in uniform. The Pistons, trailing 63-59 at the half, took control in the third quarter, going on a 20-5 run, sparked by nine points from Tolliver. The Cavs had chances to tie it midway through the fourth quarter before the Pistons stretched their lead.
