Cavs give up 148 points in embarrassing loss to Thunder Saturday

Cleveland Cavaliers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Lebron James, Isaiah Thomas, Russell Westbrook, Paul George, Carmello Anthony, Stephen Adams

On Saturday afternoon at Quicken Loans Arena, the Oklahoma City Thunder (26-20) set a franchise record for most points scored in regulation for a road game when they put a 148-124 thumping on the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Thunder simply put together an offensive clinic on national television, while the Cavs gave up the second-most points in a regulation game since the 2011 lockout.

The Cavs fell behind early — they gave up 43 first quarter points, and never recovered en route to a embarrassing loss. The Thunder’s 148 points tied for the most points the Cavs have given up in a game ever.

The Cavaliers have now lost 5 of their last 6 games with an average margin of defeat of 19.6 points per game and 9 of 12.

Lebron James was held under 20 points for the second consecutive game as the Thunder clamped down on James. He scored just nine points in the first half and finished with 18 on 8-of-17 shooting from the field. He also had 7 assists and 3 rebounds before leaving the game for good with just over 6 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. James finished 7 points shy of the 30,000 career points mark and will get another chance to surpass Kobe Bryant as the youngest in history to do it when the Cavs travel to San Antonio on Tuesday.

Isaiah Thomas scored team-high 24 points for the Cavaliers. The Cavaliers did have 6 players score in double figures as Jae Crowder (17), Derrick Rose (12), Jeff Green (12) and Dwyane Wade (11) contributed in the losing cause. Kevin Love played just three minutes, scoring zero points, due to an illness.

Oklahoma City saw each of its big three get past 20 points with Steven Adams joining the trio with a 25-point, 10-rebound effort of his own. Paul George led the way with 36 points and seven rebounds, while Carmelo Anthony logged 29 points and 10 rebounds. Russell Westbrook, meanwhile, came up one rebound short of what would have been a spectacular triple-double with 23 points, 20 assists and nine rebounds.

With another poor defensive showing, the Cavs are not looking like a playoff-caliber team at the moment. There are multiple trade rumors circulating around the team now, maybe just maybe they can try to concentrate and play some good basketball with the current team. At least, show some effort!

"Playoffs? We can't even start thinking about that, not the way we're playing right now," James said. "We could easily get bounced early in the playoffs if they started next weekend. Haven't even began thinking about the postseason."

COMING UP FOR THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS: The Cleveland Cavaliers (27-18) visit the San Antonio Spurs (30-17) for 8:00 pm tip-off on Tuesday night in another nationally televised game. (TNT)
