The USS Michigan was one of the Navy’s first iron-hulled steamships, and it sailed the Great Lakes for 106 years (1843-1949.) It represented the transition between wood to iron and sail to steam. During the Civil War, the Confederacy launched three different plots to capture it.
The Mentor Public Library is located at 8215 Mentor Ave., Mentor, 44060.
