Man Accused Of Swiping Charity Collection Money From Walgreens

Jeffrey Anderson is accused of stealing $58 in change that was earmarked for Lake County charities

Police arrested a man who is accused of swiping money that was collected for charity on Sunday from the Walgreens pharmacy on Mentor Avenue.

Security cameras taped Jeffrey Anderson, 39, as he entered the store and snatched a box that held about $58 in change, Mentor Police Lt. Tim Allen said.

Anderson ran from the store, jumped into a car that was parked nearby and drove away, Allen said.

Willoughby Police stopped Anderson's car soon thereafter on Interstate 90. Police arrested Anderson and collected the money, which had been dumped onto the floor of the car, Allen said.

The box had been thrown out the window.

Anderson faces misdemeanor charges of theft and driving with a suspended license.

Police also found a hypodermic needle on Anderson and charged him with possession of drug-abuse instruments.
