VIDEO: Man Who Crashed Into Semi ID'd, Dashcam Footage Released

The 33-year-old man needed to be extricated from under a semi-trailer and flown to a hospital, police say.

MENTOR, OH – A 33-year-old Cleveland man, who police say was driving a stolen Jeep, fled from a cop who tried to stop him, crashed into a semi and then was pinned under the trailer, police said. The man, after being extricated from beneath the trailer, was flown by helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center with unknown injuries.

Mentor Police on Wednesday identified the driver as Scott Paradiso. He remained in MetroHeath in critical condition.

The incident happened at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, police reported. Police say Paradiso was seen driving the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee along Lakeshore Boulevard near Corduroy Road in Mentor. Police believed the Jeep was stolen and tried to stop Paradiso. Paradiso stopped briefly along French Boulevard, but after the officer got out of his police car, Paradiso took off.

The officer, however, did not pursue the Jeep, police said. Paradiso headed north on Shandle Boulevard, ran a stop sign and hit the semi as its driver headed east on Lakeshore Boulevard, police said.

Mentor Police released video from two officers' dash cams, which show the encounter with the man and, ultimately, the scene of the crash.
