Officer Killed In Hit-And-Run In Mentor, Suspect In Custody

Police said they would release the identity of the suspect on Monday morning.

MENTOR, OH — A police officer was killed Saturday morning in a hit-and-run collision. Mentor Police said on June 24 they tracked down and arrested a suspect.

The collision happened on SR-2 east, at about 1 a.m. The officer was hit while assisting on a traffic stop. He was rushed to TriPoint Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect's vehicle was described as a late-model, dark-colored Jeep Wrangler with damage to the right front end and, possibly, the right side.
