Police initially said it appeared Laux had been attacked and stabbed. In the 911 call released by Mentor police, Fritz said he and Laux had gotten into an argument that turned physical and escalated until his girlfriend was dead.
"She came at me and I tried to hold her down. She started screaming and I punched her, which I swore I would never do. She bit me and I kept punching her. My life is over," he said on the call.

"Is she breathing?" the dispatcher asks.
"No, she's dead. She's gone. No," he replies. He then said that he grabbed a knife and stabbed her.
Fritz tells the dispatcher that he's "sorry" repeatedly, while saying he's going to prison.
Audio from the 911 call is below. Harsh language is used during the call.
Both the Laux and Fritz resided at the same home, police said.
The Lake County Coroner transferred the woman's body to the Cuyahoga County Coroner's officer for an autopsy. Mentor police detectives and the Lake County Crime Lam are processing the crime scene, according to police.
