Woman Charged With OVI After Nearly Driving Into Lake Erie

The woman from Uniontown, Pennsylvania, came feet from plunging into Lake Erie with her car.

MENTOR-ON-THE-LAKE, OH — A woman has been charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated after nearly driving into Lake Erie.

Mentor-on-the-Lake police responded to Mentor Beach Park Sunday after receiving a call that someone had "driven her car into the lake," according to a post on the department's Facebook page. When police arrived on the scene they found the car just feet from the lake. It had come to a stop on a rocky ledge immediately before the lake.

Police found the driver, a woman from Uniontown, Pennsylvania, walking around the park. She was very confused and thought she was in Euclid, police said. The woman was transported to Lake West Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The woman had driven her car through the parking lot, crashed through a wooden post at the end of the parking lot and continued in the direction of the lake before coming to a stop, according to police. The vehicle was later towed from the rocks.
