“We generally have extra officers in the neighborhood. It’s great community relations of our officers to interact with the kids and also enforce safety,” said Jones.

Jones also said that the Oxford will be two extra officers tonight along with their regular staff to monitor the bar scene. The Oxford Police are also pairing with Miami University Police Department.

Jones advises all vehicles and motorcyclists to be extra cautious for kids walking throughout the street tonight and advises all members of the community to learn the Halloween Safety Tips that the Police Department provided.

Some to those tips include:

  • Younger children should be with a parent or guardian, or another trusted adult when trick or treating.
  • Always walk younger children to the door to receive treats.
  • Don’t let children enter a home unless you are with them.
  • Be sure children do not approach any vehicle, occupied or not, unless you are with them
  • Discuss basic pedestrian safety rules when walking to and from houses.
