A new residential project geared toward Miami University students will soon begin construction, with a final OK expected from Oxford City Council on Tuesday.
Gaslight Avenue at Stewart Square, as the project is called, will be located at the site formerly known as Miami Lumber Yard. Plans call for 87 townhouse units on just less than 6.5 acres. The project will include three points of entry and exit, according to Jung-Han Chen, community development director for the city of Oxford -- Stewart Square, Heather Lane and Rose Avenue.

The owner is Dudley Prime Property, with Bayer Becker as engineer and Scott Webb as architect. All list Oxford addresses.
Chen said the city does not yet know the entire cost of the project or the general contractor.

Gaslight Avenue responds to current student tastes, Chen said. "We understand that the trend is that students do not want to share bedrooms with others. And the older houses might not be as attractive as the new ones,” he said.
Construction of Gaslight Avenue will begin after infrastructure improvements and utility work. It is tentatively scheduled to open for the 2019-20 school year.
City Council gave the project preliminary approval Aug. 1 and the city's Planning Commission OK'd it 6-0 on Nov. 14. Council reviewed the project at its Dec. 5 meeting and will vote on it this Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. at the Oxford Courthouse, 118 W. High St.
