Anne Hopkins, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Miami University from 1994-1998, died last weekend in Jacksonville, Florida. She was 79.

Hopkins also served as interim president of Miami from December 1995-July 1996. She left Miami in 1999 to become president of the University of North Florida (UNF). She served as the fourth President of UNF through 2002, when she stepped down due to health reasons and served as professor of political science until her retirement.
Prior to joining Miami, Hopkins served as vice president and vice provost of arts, sciences and engineering at the University of Minnesota and as provost, assistant provost and associate professor of political science at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She began her academic career in 1968 as an assistant professor and chair of political science at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in New York. She earned her doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degrees in political science from Syracuse University.Â

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 16, at Palms Presbyterian Church, at 3410 3rd St S., Jacksonville Beach. All attendees are asked to pre-register.Â
