2 Berea District Students Advance to Next Round of PTA Reflections

Two Berea students' passion for visual arts and dance will take them to the national round.

Two Berea City School District student artists have placed in the next round of the PTA Reflections program for impressing judges with their original works of art.

Ford Intermediate Schoolers Sarah Andrews and Sylvia Bordelios placed first and third place respectively in the program, which urges students in preschool through grade 12 to submit works of art in the medium of their choice, according to a release from the district. The mediums include visual arts, photography, literature, music, film and dance choreography.

Bordelios walked away with an Award of Merit for her work in visual arts, while Andrews’ dance choreography won her an Award of Excellence. The two were selected out of the 28 submissions that were sent to the state by the PTA Council for judging.

Students' entries are supposed to correspond with the competition’s theme, which was “Let Your Imagination Soar.” The two will be judged in the national round next, with winner announcements scheduled for May 1 according to the PTA website.

The National PTA Awards and Reflections Celebration will then be held in Orlando, Fla. on July 2, followed by a National Art Exhibit Opening Ceremony at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington D.C. on January 10.
