Gun Thief Sentenced For Snatching Weapon At Berea Show

The man is already serving time in prison for rape and attempted murder, the Department of Justice said.

BEREA, OH — A man that stole a firearm from a Berea gun show has been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison, the Department of Justice announced Thursday.

Anthony Lett was convicted earlier in 2018 on one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Lett was also convicted of being in possession of a stolen firearm after a two-day trial in U.S. District Court.

"This is a person with a long history of violence who has no business having a firearm," U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman said. "Our community is safer with him behind bars."

Lett stole a Kahr Arms .45-caliber pistol from a gun show in Berea on April 30, 2016. He had prior convictions for kidnapping, felonious assault, carrying a concealed weapon, drug trafficking, and other crimes, all of which made it illegal for him to have a gun, court documents said.

Lett is currently serving 20 years in state prison for convictions unrelated to the gun theft. He is currently serving time for rape, attempted murder, aggravated robbery, and other crimes, court documents said.
