Olmsted Falls Senior Gets Exclusive Scholarship

LAKEWOOD, OH — An Olmsted Falls senior is among three Cleveland-area students receiving scholarships from Cox Communications. The company announced the three recipients this week. Each student will receive a $2,000 scholarship.

Daniel Linder, a senior at Olmsted Falls, plans to pursue a degree in data science and technology. He will attend the University of Akron, partly with the help of the Cox scholarship.

“My dream job would be as a data analytic scientist consultant or supervisor for the Cleveland Indians, or any other sports team," Linder said on his application. "I chose this major because I work well with numbers and would like to use numbers and my knowledge of technology to help the world.”

The students were selected based off academic excellence, community involvement, and desire to pursue a degree in communications, telecommunications, technology, or engineering. The company held a ceremony at its Parma officers honoring the recipients.

“Recognizing students and the schools and teachers that help them achieve success is fundamentally important to our goals of supporting youth education in Ohio,” said Jay Allbaugh, senior vice president and region manager, Cox Communications, in a statement. “Each year, we are proud to celebrate local students who are poised to build onto their high school experience with new goals and opportunities in the next step of their academic careers.”

All scholarship applications were reviewed by a committee of community and business leaders. In addition to the three Ohio students, scholarships were also awarded to students in Rhode Island and Connecticut. In total, the company gave out $38,000 in academic scholarships.

“These three recipients are an example of how Northeast Ohio students are driven to become our next generation of innovators, civic leaders and entrepreneurs,” said Senator Matt Dolan, an active supporter of the Cox scholarship program, said in a statement. “Our future depends on students having access to the resources they need to unlock opportunity, and I’m proud to congratulate them on receiving a Cox scholarship as they begin the next chapter of their academic careers.”

The other two students receiving scholarships in Ohio were:

• Madison Foulkes, a senior at Brecksville – Broadview Heights High School, plans to attend Ohio University and pursue a degree in print journalism.
• Ryan Hrusch, a senior at St. Eds, was one of the recipients. He plans to attend the University of Dayton and pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.
