Southwest General Doctor Honored For Work With Mental Illness

MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OH — Dr. Charles Luther, a Southwest General Hospital doctor, is the 2017 recipient of the Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board of Cuyahoga County Mental Health Professional of the Year. Luther is also the medical director of Oakview Behavioral Health Services.

Luther was chosen for his work with individuals with mental illness and chemical dependency. He also provides expertise on Assisted Outpatient Treatment as the ADAMHS board expands its program through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration grant.

“This award represents the compassionate, quality work of the recipient and honors the recipient’s extraordinary contributions in helping children and adults with mental illness and addictions on their path to recovery,” said William M. Denihan, chief executive officer, ADAMHS Board of Cuyahoga County, in a statement. “Dr. Luther has played a significant role in helping to remove the stigma that is all too often still associated with mental illness and chemical dependency.”

Luther joined Southwest in 2015. He received his degree from Case Western Reserve School of Medicine and then practiced in New York City, most recently at Lenox Hill Hospital.

“The growing number of individuals requiring care for opioid addiction and mental health issues is staggering,” explains William A. Luther was recognized at a May 8 event.
