Southwest General Named Employer Of Choice

Southwest was the only hospital in the state to receive the award.

From Southwest General: Southwest General is pleased to announce that it has received the Employer of Choice® award following a rigorous evaluation process. To date, it is the only hospital in the state of Ohio to have received this recognition.

The Employer of Choice® award is presented to organizations that are dedicated to a higher level of employee relations that goes above and beyond the normative practices of Human Resources. It was created as a way for employers to differentiate themselves from others by attracting, optimizing, and holding on to, their greatest asset—employees. “Employer of Choice® organizations are recognized for their low employee turnover and engaged workforce. For Southwest General, this means we’re spending less money replacing employees so we have more resources available for patient-care initiatives and to support long-tenured employees,” explains Dee Weber, MBA, vice president, Human Resources, Southwest General. “Workers today have more choices than ever, especially given the number of local health care facilities. We are very proud of this distinction and believe it will support our efforts to continue recruiting talented individuals to our workforce.”

Southwest General’s Human Resources Department has worked diligently to develop a strategy that supports the Health Center’s focus on patients and employees, as evidenced by many new, innovative programs and services, including the following recent accomplishments:
 Leveraged technology for new, more efficient solutions in wage analysis
 Developed new recruitment initiatives
 Implemented enhanced outreach efforts
 Coordinated onsite State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) classes
 Incorporated Southwest General’s service-based behaviors into bi-annual performance appraisals
 Initiated an in-house leadership development curriculum “Employer of Choice® organizations, such as Southwest General, that are able to attract, optimize and retain top talent, will enjoy a substantial advantage over their competitors,” said Joyce Gioia, chief executive officer, Employer of Choice®, Inc. “They have the knowledge, experience, resiliency and power to respond quickly to their customers’ needs, delivering what customers want more efficiently and effectively than competitors with higher employee turnover. This strength allows them to maintain high levels of customer service and loyalty.”
