Main Street Grille Owner on Restaurant Improvements: There's Light at the End of the Tunnel

Owner Larry Owens gives an update on restaurant improvements — what's happened, what's happening and what's yet to be done

It may seem like the improvements at the Main Street Grille are never-ending.

But, there is an end in sight, says owner Larry Owens.

"Everything is just kind of coming together," Owens said. "I can see light at the end of the tunnel."

North Canton Patch first reported on the restaurant's updates in July 2011, when it closed for three weeks to renovate the floors and bathrooms, which now have new wallpaper, subway tile and full mirrors.

And from there, the improvements kept right on coming.

The restaurant has added about 40-45 more seats by opening up the "New Berlin Room" on the building's very south side. The room, which opened just before Christmas last year, features a fireplace and table seating as well as black-and-white photos of North Canton from the 1800s.

The restaurant's very north room had table seating, and Owens said that room now features new booths.

Plus, a kitchen expansion took the restaurant's parameters back about 25 feet (in the back of the building).

So, what's up with all the additions?

"It’s all been part of I guess you’d call it the 'master plan,'" Owens said. "In March we closed down and we increased the size of the kitchen. We probably quadrupled the size of it, capacity-wise. We have all new equipment and everything, and last winter we built the banquet room on the second floor. That’s now open and that seats 49."

The Main Street Grille is about 9,500 square feet in all, including the cellar.

If you look at the back of the building, you can see plans to add a carry-out (a place for customers to browse and buy wine) are still in full swing.

The patio, featuring an outdoor gas fire pit, is still happening, too.

"Our goal is to have everything done by spring, by May, the outdoor dining and everything," Owens said.

The Main Street Grille recently launched its new website. You can find that at msgrille.com.
