Ohio Connections Academy Recognizes North Canton Student
Star Student Award recognizes students for achievement in and out of the virtual classroom
Makayla Waggle of North Canton was recently named one of Ohio Connections Academy’s (OCA) Star Students of the Month for January in recognition of her academic achievements and leadership in and outside the classroom.
Makayla, a junior at the statewide online public charter school, was nominated by her teacher Ms. Gucciardo in recognition of her hard work and outstanding attitude towards learning. As a Star Student, Makayla will be presented a certificate recognizing her achievement and be profiled in Ohio Connections Academy’s student newsletter and on the school’s social media sites. Each month during the school year OCA will recognize students in grades K through 12 who are excelling in the virtual classroom.
“The faculty, staff and members of the board at Ohio Connections Academy are proud to recognize students like Makayla and the commitment they demonstrate to our school and their community,” said OCA Superintendent Marie Hanna. “Each of our Star Students is a leader in the classroom and demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to learning – they truly deserve this recognition.”

Makayla has been attending Ohio Connections Academy since she entered kindergarten and follows her older siblings who attended and graduated from the online school. According to Makayla, she saw her siblings do well in the online program and she believes the schedule flexibility enables her to work at her own pace and explore new things.
“I didn’t know any different,” Makayla said. “Having always gone to OCA, it was first nature for me.”
