3 Solon Athletes Sign Letters of Intent

The students will continue their athletic careers at the University of Pennsylvania, Michigan State University, and Notre Dame College.

SOLON, OH - Three Solon High School students signed letters of intent to continue their athletic careers in college. The students will be playing at University of Pennsylvania (Penn), Michigan State University, and Notre Dame College.

Danny Cohen, Penn, will be running cross country and track for the Ivy League institution. During his tenure at Solon, Cohen achieved some major milestones.

  • 4th in Ohio in the 1600m in 2015
  • Three-time All-Ohio Cross Country runner
  • Member of the 4x1600m relay team that holds Solon High School's school record
  • Captain of the 2016 State Championship Cross Country team

Joe Riordan will be a Spartan cross country and track runner for Michigan State University next year. During his time in Solon, Riordan accomplished some major feats.

  • School record holder in the 5K
  • Two-time All-Ohio Cross Country runner
  • Member of the 4 x 1600m relay team that holds the school record
  • Captain of the 2016 State Championship Cross Country team

Joe Paskell will play baseball at Notre Dame College. He currently plays third base, first base, and occasionally pitches for the Comets baseball team. His major SHS accomplishments include:

  • First Team All-Greater Cleveland Conference last season, hitting .382 with 22 RBI and 22 runs scored in 27 games played
  • His current season stats include a .276 average, with 7 RBI, 8 runs scored, and a .455 On-Base Percentage through 11 games
