3 Solon High Students Named Presidential Scholars Finalists
Only 161 students are annually named Presidential Scholars.
SOLON, OH — Three Solon High students have been named candidates in the annual Presidential Scholars Program.
The three students are Michael Kong, Karis Liu and Catherine Yu, all seniors. Scholars will be announced in May.
The Presidential Scholars Program recognizes outstanding student performance on the ACT or SAT, as well as extracurricular activities in the community. Up to 161 students are annually named Presidential Scholars.

Last year, 5.3 million students graduated out of high school, according to the U.S. Department of Education. Of those, 5,300 students were named Presidential Scholars finalists and 161 became Scholars.
One male and one female student from each state, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and families living abroad, are named Presidential Scholars each year.

In recent years, Solon High has had six Presidential Scholars, the district said.
