Awards Season Kind To Solon Girls Basketball
Trish Kruse was named coach of the year for Division I girls basketball, while one player made first-team All-Ohio.

SOLON, OH — The sixth ranked team in the state, the Lady Comets from Solon High School raked in awards from OHSAA this week. Head coach Trish Kruse was named coach of the year for Division I girls basketball, while senior Valencia Myers grabbed first-team All-Ohio honors.
With a 25-2 record on the season, Solon is set to play Friday in the state championship semifinals. The Lady Comets will take on ninth ranked Wadsworth (24-3) at 6 p.m. in Columbus. The two teams will play at Ohio State's Jerome Schottenstein Center. Whoever wins will play the winner of Mason vs number one ranked Pickerington Central. Those two teams will play Friday at 8 p.m.
This is Solon's third Final Four in four years, a massive accomplishment for a growing powerhouse team. The Lady Comets went to the Final Four in 2015, 2016 and now 2018.

The state championship game for Division I girls basketball will be played Saturday, at the Schottenstein Center, at 8:30 p.m. All of Ohio's regional and state championship playoff basketball games will be broadcast on Spectrum Sports (channel 311, or channel 510 for former Insight areas). The games will also be broadcast on the OHSAA Radio Network. The games can be listened to by clicking here.
Kierstan Bell, from Canton McKinley and Jacy Sheldon, from Dublin Coffman, were named Division I, girls basketball co-players of the year. Ohio's Ms. Basketball is expected to be announced Wednesday.
