Snow Showers, More Cold Inbound For Cleveland Area

After three days of wind chill advisories and freezing temperatures, the National Weather Service now says snow is likely.

There will be no rest for the winter weary in Northeast Ohio this week. The National Weather Service is calling for snow showers and freezing temperatures to close out the week, including an overnight low of -1 degrees on Friday.

Much of Greater Cleveland has been under a Wind Chill Advisory since Monday, meaning temperatures have been dangerously low with the wind chill. That advisory is set to expire Wednesday afternoon, but that doesn't mean things are warming up.

Thursday's high will be 10 degrees, the NWS says. Friday and Saturday's high should be 8 degrees. By comparison, Wednesday's high is set to be 21 degrees. With wind chill, Thursday night could see temperatures drop as low as -17 degrees.

To add insult to injury, snow showers are likely to start Wednesday night and continue until Friday morning. The NWS is predicting just about 2 to 3 inches of snow to fall during that period.

This bout of extreme cold is set to end on Sunday, when temperatures should start to climb into the low 30s. Temperatures will continue to climb during the early portion of next week, with highs in the low 40s forecast for Monday.

Snow could turn into rain as things begin to warm up, which could mean some of the accumulated snowfall gets washed away. It could also mean ice when temperatures inevitably start to drop again. Commuters will want to keep an eye on both their sidewalks and their typical routes into work because things could get real slippery.
