Sobriety Checkpoint In Solon: 7 Citations Issued

SOLON, OH — Police officers held a sobriety checkpoint in Solon on Saturday, screening drivers for signs of intoxication.

Officers inspected more than 600 cars between 8:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. Only 11 cars were diverted by police for further examination, and while no drivers were found to be intoxicated, there were plenty of citations issued.

Here's a list of offenses police penalized during the checkpoint:

• One person was cited for driving with a temporary permit
• One person was cited for driving without a license
• Two people were cited for driving with suspended licenses
• One person was cited for having drug paraphernalia in their car
• Two people had suspected marijuana seized from their car

Solon police said drivers going through the checkpoint were delayed an average of 25 seconds.

Fourteen Solon police officers and two auxiliary officers worked the checkpoint on SOM Center Road, according to Lt. Roy Cunningham of Solon police. Police received help from the Chagrin Valley Dispatch Center, Rich’s Towing Oakwood Village, H&H Towing, and Chagrin Valley REACT.
