Solon Football Players Commit To Duke, Harvard

Two of the best players for this year's Comets team will head to elite academic institutions in the fall.

SOLON, OH — Two Solon High students have signed letters of intent to play football at Duke University and Harvard University.

"Congratulations to Solon Comets Ron Carr and Nate Leskovec, who will become student athletes at Duke University and Harvard University. Ron and Nate exemplify academic and athletic excellence," the school district said in praise of the seniors.

For two straight years, Leskovec, a defensive lineman, was named to the All-Ohio First Team Defense. He was a captain for the football team and the 2018 Greater Cleveland Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He led the Comets in tackling this season, with 106 total tackles (42 for a loss). He will continue his football career at Harvard.

Last year, when Leskovec made his first All-Ohio team, Solon head coach Jim McQuade praised his then-junior's stellar play. "He's relentless. He has a high motor. He can run from sideline to sideline," McQuaide told Patch. "He's one of those guys that is one of the nicest and calmest guys you would know off the field. But he can turn it on for the field. He's one of the toughest and nastiest players on the field."
