Solon Grad Recognized As Scholastic All-American
Katie Fiorilli's unique skill in the classroom and as a gymnast have earned her a special distinction.

From University of Wisconsin-Whitewater: Katie Fiorilli, a native of Solon, OH, graduate of Solon High School and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team, was one of seven Warhawks to be recognized as Scholastic All-America by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women.
UW-Whitewater was also designated as a Scholastic All-America team thanks to its 3.35 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
Fiorilli is majoring in communication sciences and disorders.

In addition to the team recognition, seniors Katie Fiorilli (Solon, Ohio/Solon), Kelsea Fischer (Grandville, Mich./Grandville), Mackenzie Smith (Milwaukee, Wis./Martin Luther), juniors Kate Mierow (Brookfield, Wis./Central), Christina Slack (Albrightsville, Pa./Jim Thorpe), sophomore Bailey Fitzpatrick and freshman Lauren Marshall garnered Scholastic All-America accolades. Fiorilli, Mierow and Slack have now been recognized three times with the award, and Smith is a two-time honoree.
All seven student-athletes helped UW-Whitewater win the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association national championship for the fourth time in school history and claim the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/NCGA West Region Championships for the fifth time in the last eight years.

Fiorilli posted a 3.99 GPA during the 2016-17 academic year after completing her career with 12 All-America accolades, five individual national championships, a 2015 Academic All-America nod from the College Sports Information Directors of America and the 2017 WIAC Women's Gymnastics Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete award. Fischer, who recorded a 3.79 GPA during the year, joined Fiorilli as a UW-Whitewater Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete and NCGA All-American in Academics.
Smith finished with a 3.58 cumulative GPA and wrapped up her career as a two-time All-American on bars, including the 2016 national title in the event.
Mierow carries a 3.51 cumulative GPA and earned her first All-America honor in 2017 after tying for seventh on bars at the NCGA Championships. Slack registered a 3.92 GPA in 2016-17 after competing in the floor exercise and vault during the season.
Fitzpatrick collected a 3.81 GPA during the year and Marshall earned a 3.60 over the last two semesters. Fitzpatrick tied for eighth on bars at the WIAC/NCGA West Region Championships, and Marshall tied for 13th on vault at the same meet.
