Solon Police Hosting Food Drive On Saturday

SOLON, OH — The Solon Police and Fire departments are hosting a food drive to benefit the Greater Cleveland Food Bank.

On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the community can drop off non-perishable food items to be given to the food bank. The event will be held at Solon Community Park. Participants should put their to-be-donated items in a bag or box in their trunk.

The event is being organized with the help of the Community Impact Advisory Board.

"Solon Police Department in partnership with our Community Impact Advisory Board and Solon Fire Department, realize the extra help that the Cleveland Food Bank could use this year, due to the hardships that many are suffering, so we decided to hold this first time event to allow residents to give back, safely from their vehicles," said Detective Lieutenant Jamey Hoffman.

Solon police and firefighters will then retrieve the donation from the trunk and get participants through the process with minimal contact. All police and firefighters will be wearing masks to protect each other and participants.

Patch has teamed with Feeding America to help raise awareness on behalf of the millions of Americans facing hunger. Feeding America, which supports 200 food banks across the country, estimates that in 2020, more than 50 million Americans will not have enough nutritious food to eat due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
