SOLON, OH — On Wednesday, Joe Biden was inaugurated as the 46th president of the United States.

In a sweeping speech, Biden called for an end to America's "uncivil war." He urged Americans to maintain concern and empathy for their neighbors, even if they disagree politically. He noted that his vice president, Kamala Harris, was a symbol of how much the nation can change.

Rep. Dave Joyce, whose district includes Solon, attended the inauguration ceremony. He said he has been at four presidential inauguration, regardless of who was being installed as president.

Joyce said it is an "honor and a privilege" to witness the peaceful transition of power.

"May God bless President Biden and Vice President Harris as they work to serve our nation and may God continue to bless the United States of America," Joyce said on Twitter.

Solon-based state Rep. Phil Robinson echoed Biden's plea, calling for increased bipartisanship at every level of government.

"As the country continues to face historic challenges including a global pandemic, economic downturn, and political divisions, I know that united, we can make progress toward tackling these issues. We are Americans, and that is what we do," Robinson said in a statement.
