Solon Schools Return To In-Person Education Monday

Students will return to classrooms on Jan. 11.

SOLON, OH — The Solon Schools will begin a return to in-person education on Monday, Jan. 11.

In late December, Gov. Mike DeWine recommended public schools delay any returns to in-person education for at least one week following the holidays. Per his suggestion, Solon Schools delayed reopening until Jan. 11.

Depending on their grade level, students could be in class as much as five days a week, or as little as two days a week.

"We’re trying to keep younger students in the classroom as much as possible. Supervision of younger students at home can have a multitude of issues. When we came back from all-remote in the fall, we wanted to keep our K-6 students in-person as much as possible," a district spokesperson told Patch.

Students in grades K-4 will be in class five days a week, the spokesperson confirmed.

Students at Orchard Middle Schools (grade 5-6) will be in school four days a week, with a rotating virtual remote day. Each student in the school was assigned a virtual education day by the principal, to maximize space per classrooms.

Solon Middle School (grade 7-8) and Solon High School will be in the same hybrid model they were in during first semester. Half of each school will be in class on Monday and Tuesday, the other half will be in class on Wednesday and Thursday, and everyone will be remote on Friday.

"This is only for students whose parents wanted them to be in-person. We gave families a choice toward the end of first semester. Any student at any time can move to virtual learning," a district spokesperson told Patch.

According to the Solon Schools COVID-19 dashboard, there were two cases of COVID-19 among students who would be on campus and five cases among staffers.
