Western Reserve Safety Council Safety Award Winners Announced

Award winners were presented at a luncheon, where member companies were recognized for demonstrating safe performance.

From Solon Chamber of Commerce: The Western Reserve Safety Council (WRSC), founded July 2014, announces the 2017 Safety Award Winners presented at the May 3, 2017 luncheon at Mustard Seed Market. Dr. Cynthia Deyling, Chief Quality Officer, Cleveland Clinic, was the key note speaker. Member companies were recognized for demonstrating safety performance through the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation (BWC) and as well as the people and initiatives that advance safety and wellness in their organizations. Jennifer Natale, Pres/CEO of the Solon Chamber said “The Solon Chamber of Commerce is proud to partner with the Ohio BWC to deliver this quality program that provides an educational forum to help enhance safety culture in the workplace.

We created the Western Reserve Safety Council 3 years ago and continue to be amazed by the growth of 110 members since inception of the program. The collaboration of area chambers has been instrumental in the success and we continue to provide educational programs and cost-effective ways for WRSC members to reap the benefits of the program and put safety first”.

Group Award Winners

Safe Employee winner is Dave Estep, Northcoast Shredding & Record Center and the Safety Innovation winner is Paul Killian, CEM-BASE. The Safety Innovation award recognizes a process improvement, equipment installation or solution that was implemented in 2016-17 to reduce workplace injuries and illnesses.100% Award winners recognizes Zero Loss Day Incidents and include AMRESCO, Bainbridge Township, Bird Electronics, Cardinal Health, CEM-BASE, Chagrin Safety Supply, GLT Products, Innovation Food Supply/Red’s Catering, Jainco Products, Mayfield Collision Centers, North American Seal Supply, Northcoast Shredding & Record Center, Prosperity NEO, Service-Tech Corporation, SPRM, Inc. and Swagelok.

Special Awards were presented to each employer that accumulates at least 500,000 hours and at least 6 months without an employee injury or illness resulting in a day away from work. These winners are AMRESCO, Bird Electronic, Cardinal Health, Petitti Garden Centers and Swagelok. Group Awards go to the employer with the lowest incident rate from each group and go to AMRESCO, Bainbridge Township, Cardinal Health, Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity, Mayfield Collision Centers, Medina Services, Prosperity NEO and Service-Tech Corporation. The Achievement award, awarded to the employers with a 25% reduction in Lost Time Incident Rate went to AMRESCO, Merc Acquisitions, Inc - ESSO and Swagelok. WRSC Member Kolette Woloszynek, City of Twinsburg said “The WRSC serves as a key safety partner to the City of Twinsburg. The monthly meetings keep us informed and updated on timely topics related safety and workplace best practices. The reminders about OSHA regulations and BWC updates help to keep both private and public employers compliant with ever-changing policies and deadlines… ”.

The WRSC, which is open to all area businesses, not-for-profits and government entities, was established in February 2014 and officially launched in July. The mission of the safety council is to provide a forum for the presentation of health and safety issues and exchange ideas and concepts for best practices in the workplace with an emphasis on regulatory compliance. The Western Reserve Safety Council is promoted by area chambers of commerce including, Solon, Beachwood, Chagrin Valley, Aurora, Twinsburg and Hudson in conjunction with the Ohio BWC.
