The Best Cities for Trick-or-Treating

California tops the list with San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Real estate blogger Alexa Fiander ranked the top twenty American cities for trick-or-treating that provide the most candy with the least walking and safety risks.

To rank the cities, Fiander built a trick-or-treat index to compare the safety, walkability, and the amount of candy a trick-or-treater can get. All four of these statistics were given equal weight:

  • Median home values: Because the biggest house on the block is most likely (hopefully) giving out the king-sized candy bars.
  • Walk scores: Measure the neighborhood’s walkability, such as whether there are sidewalks and street lights
  • Population density: More houses mean more candy, and density means less walking between them.
  • Crime statistics: You might be dressed like a superhero, but the neighborhood could still be dangerous at night.

Over the next few weeks, Fiander will be digging deeper to show which neighborhoods provide the best routes for Halloween.
