$450,000 Loan Given To Middleburg Heights Apartment Project

MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OH — A 16-unit apartment complex will be built at the site of a long-vacant YWCA building in Middleburg Heights. To facilitate the project, Cuyahoga County is issuing a $450,000 forgivable loan to the project.

The complex will be built by Medina Creative Housing (MCH), a private non-profit that provides affordable housing to people with disabilities. Cuyahoga County is also providing $100,000 to the City of Middleburg Heights to demolish the YWCA.

“We are excited that Medina Creative Housing selected Middleburg Heights to provide housing for an underserved market—permanent supportive housing for people with developmental disabilities. We look forward to working with the County and Medina Creative Housing as a former blighted building is removed and the new development progresses,” said Middleburg Heights Mayor Matt Castelli.

The apartment building will include four clusters of three apartments and two clusters of two apartments. The 550-square-foot apartments include a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room, patio, and vaulted ceilings.

MCH also offers social and recreational opportunities, life skills training, vocational training, and work opportunities.

“I am pleased that the County is part of this important initiative,” said Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish. “This new project will not only provide needed, affordable housing, but it will replace a blighted existing building with homes for individuals with developmental disabilities.”
