Construction At Major Strongsville Intersection Starts Soon
Drivers will want to avoid the Pearl-Royalton roads intersection during construction.
STRONGSVILLE, OH — The next phase of construction on the Pearl-Royalton roads intersection will start August 26, the city announced. The project will disrupt traffic for the next few months.
The project is expected to improve walkability and improve safety for drivers, the city of Strongsville said on its website. However, construction will disrupt traffic and create major delays. Drivers are being asked to avoid the intersection, if possible.
Over the next few months, crews will work in phases on portions of the project. Here's how the construction will take place:

- First, crews will work on crosswalks on the outside edges of Royalton and Pearl
- Then crews will work on the median and crosswalk on 82 and the west side of the intersection
- Then crews will work on the north-south crosswalks along the eastern side of the intersection
- Then crews will work on the median and crosswalk on Pearl and the south side of the intersection
- Finally, crews will work on the east-west crosswalk running along the northern side of the intersection
The project will include the addition of ADA-compliant curb ramps, refuge islands and pedestrian signals to help walkers cross the intersection. Traffic signals will be hung on mast arms and drainage around the intersection will be improved, officials said on the city website.
"New traffic detectors capable of detecting bicycles will be installed, and bike racks will be placed on Freedom Trail. In addition, wayfinding signs will direct people to various destinations within the Town Center district, including the Ehrnfelt Rec Center and Strongsville Library," city officials wrote.

Construction in front of Strongsville Middle Schools and at the Pearl-Westwood intersection was completed earlier this year.
