Ohio expanded COVID-19 vaccine eligibility on Thursday, allowing residents 50 and older to now receive the vaccine. The program's expansion comes as Ohio plans mass vaccination clinics in Cleveland, Cincinnati and Columbus.

Gov. Mike DeWine has promised to lift all COVID-19 restrictions once Ohio averages 50 cases per 100,000 residents. Last week, the Buckeye State averaged more than 180 cases per 100,000. As of Wednesday, Ohio is now averaging 155 cases per 100,000 residents.

As vaccine rollout continues, DeWine believes case rates will continue to fall. He encouraged all Ohioans to get a vaccine as soon as it is offered to them.

To facilitate vaccine distribution, Ohio has launched its first statewide vaccine registration tool, which can be accessed online.
